This dense, tussock-forming species occurs as a relatively small population along the Jan Juc cliffs to the southwest of Bird Rock lookout. It can get to 70cm in height but is smaller than this insitu. It is one of the unusual group of plants that is in full flower from early winter. The species name micrantha means 'with small flowers'. Indeed, its flowers are so small they can easily go unnoticed.
Leaves are grass-like, thin and gently twisted.
Flowers are held down in amongst the foliage and mostly hidden from view. Male and female flowers are similar with small, greenish-yellow to almost transparent flowers produced on separate plants; the male distinguishable by its 6 yellow stamens and on flower stems singly or in pairs whilst the female lacks stamens and is borne singly.
All Lomandra species are known as important native butterfly/caterpillar food plants as well as bird attracting.
